About Mr. Cheeks (Atticus)
(at Inga's house, Atticus Dickson)

The hardest part of all this is where to put your cheeks.
I could sling them over my shoulder like a continental soldier,
But I can't go to breakfast without them.

Sometimes I wish I could unscrew these cheeks and,
Like a man,
Go out into the world,
But still deep down I know my cheek is the salt of life,
Le Espirit de Vivre!

Some people have attempted to use my cheeks as a nesting spot for their lips.
They get too comfortable there.
But, just as Jesus said, "Tread lightly on the earth",
I say, "Tread thy lips lightly on mine cheek".

Then there are the toes-- Oh! the toes. The toes are where
I turn in times of trouble.
These toes were made for sucking, and that's just what I'll
do, Grab a toe and suck it, and you'll be happy too!

A toe is a toe is a toe is a toe, said Gertrude Stein, or
something to that effect. And, a toe in the cheek is worth
two on the foot, I say.
All comes down to toes and cheeks.
Life is so simple.
