I Awoke Today

I awoke today with you heavy on me
like the coldest winter
and like the beast of prey
you mean no harm, you just needed one more
bite out of me

And I awoke today, and I know as I always knew
you just needed something soft to lay your teeth into

And yet today is so soft, so still nothing will
break the driving silence
falling like snow, it falls so heavy on me
the coldest winter, I've known her before

And this town won't come alive,
nothing growing will survive,
and I'm gonna fly on outa here
no this town won't come alive, nothing growing will survive
and I need to get on outa here

When I awoke today, there were no birdcalls
and bedfeathers float into my early grave
you can hear them in the cold thin air
the loudest sound was silence

The lull of silence wakes me up
and puts me back to sleep
hair sliding cross my pillow, sliding underneath the sheets

But spring will come,
and jasmine will grow in you
cold dark hole,
yes spring will come,
and daisy will grow in you
cold dark hole
